Program Information

The Vinnies Service Medallion gives young people the chance to step into real-world service, take initiatives and create meaningful impact in their school or communities. Here you’ll find everything you need to understand how the program operates and how students can make their mark while earning formal recognition for their efforts.

How it works

The VSM uses a flexible, tiered model that guides participants through service initiatives with clear steps for evidence and supervisor verification.

Most begin in Year 7 to allow time to complete each stage, and the program is adaptable to different school or community contexts; mid‑year entry is available, with the VSM team and Vinnies School Engagement Officers able to tailor support for equitable recognition. For details, see the Program Guidelines

Who can participate

The VSM is available to all secondary students in Years 7–12 across NSW, whether they engage through their school or as independent participants. The program is open to a wide range of interests and abilities, offering pathways that suit different learning styles and levels of experience. With support from supervisors, community groups and the VSM team, participants can take part confidently and in a way that suits their context.

How it’s delivered

The VSM can be run as a standalone program or integrated into existing social justice, leadership or wellbeing initiatives. Independent participants follow the same structure, with guidance and support available from the VSM team to ensure a smooth and meaningful experience. Schools and community groups can adapt timelines and activities to suit their context while keeping to the core guidelines.
