Vinnies was born thanks to a young student who’d walk through the poorer suburbs of his community on his way to university lectures each day.
The poverty he came across on his travels inspired him to be the change, make a difference and help who he could. Today, Vinnies works across Australia to continue this legacy…
Vinnies Youth are doing works all across the country to create a more just and compassionate society, from running kids days out and homework clubs, to soup vans, fundraising events, and social justice campaigns. Our grassroots, local groups meet regularly to create and run initiatives that meet the needs in local communities. Whether it’s a primary school, high school, university or community group, Vinnies groups (known as Conferences), are making change everywhere.
You can also volunteer at our Shops or one of our Vinnies Services. We have family and domestic violence, health, homelessness and housing, disability and inclusion services serving the community in a range of ways.
Volunteers and members are the heart and soul of Vinnies, and with over 10,000 vollies state-wide, you’re sure to find some friends for life too.
“Let us do without hesitation whatever good lies at our hands”

Over the weekend, our two Lismore conferences, St Carthage's and Frassati Young Adults, teamed up to visit flood affected families. We caught up with families we had previously visited and assisted to see how they were going, and to bring a little extra assistance in time for Christmas. Hearing and seeing the devastation and loss these families faced was heartbreaking. Some are still living in caravans on their properties as their homes are still uninhabitable. Many homes are empty. Many in Lismore feel like they have been forgotten and abandoned. The continued visits and checking in from Vinnies members helps these families know that they are not forgotten, and that Vinnies are there for them.
